Portland was less impressive than we hoped; it was mostly just like any other big city. However, one of the highlights was the cruise we took. We got to see lots of little Islands where people have summer cabins and where some people actually live year-round! The only negative about the cruise is that it made us jealous that we don't have a summer cabin on an island in Maine :-(
This was an old civil war-era fort on an island. It's actually considered a state park, so you can visit it if you want, but only if you have your own private boat to take you there. . . we didn't.
